Random Letter Generator

Open this random letter picker when a game needs one letter from the alphabet generator. It starts with a single uppercase letter, and you can change the case, skip letters, or draw up to 26.

How to use the Random Letter Generator

  1. Read the letter

The page loads with one large uppercase letter. You can copy it or open projector mode before changing anything.

  2. Set the options

Choose upper, lower, or mixed case. Set a count up to 26, turn on no-repeat, keep vowels or consonants, and type letters to skip.

  3. Generate and share

Generate letters draws a new set. Copy puts it on the clipboard. The last ten draws stay after a refresh until you clear them.

Options: case, no-repeat, vowels, and consonants

Uppercase, lowercase, or mixed case applies to the next draw. No-repeat keeps every letter in that draw different. Vowels are A, E, I, O, and U. Every other letter, including Y, is a consonant.

  • A count from 1 to 26 draws that many letters. No-repeat stops at the letters still available.
  • Type letters to leave out, such as Q and X. Case, spaces, and commas do not matter.
  • Earlier draws do not change the next one. The last ten results stay in this browser.

Game ideas: Scattergories, Stop/Categories, and prompt by letter

Classroom prompts

Draw one letter and ask for a river, a snack, and a job that start with it. The same list works for a quick vocabulary check.

Scattergories and Stop

Use the letter as the round starter for Scattergories or Stop/Categories. No-repeat keeps a longer draw from repeating a letter.

Other letter games

Switch to vowels or consonants for spelling practice, or copy the letters onto a board before the next turn.

Prompt by letter: draw R, then everyone names a river, a snack, and a job that start with R. Scattergories and Stop/Categories both play that way.

Pick a person with the random name picker, or settle a side question on the Yes or No Wheel.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can I draw letters with no repeats?

Yes. Turn on No repeats. Each letter in that draw is different, up to the letters still available, and never more than 26.

Can I generate vowels only?

Yes. Choose Vowels only. The draw uses A, E, I, O, and U, minus any letters you exclude.

Can I use consonants only or skip letters?

Yes. Choose Consonants only, or type letters to exclude. Y stays with the consonants.

Which games use a random letter?

Scattergories, Stop/Categories, and other prompt-by-letter rounds. Draw one letter, then name things that start with it.

Do the last letters stay after a refresh?

The last ten draws stay in this browser until you clear them. A refresh also draws a new letter.
